The cherry blossoms are a really big deal in DC. To some degree, it’s because they are beautiful and fragile and short lived and you have to see them right now, and partially it’s because of their history, but I think mostly it has to do with this collective sense of holy shit winter is finally over thank god. The crowds were wild, but I think it’s kind of nice that thousands of people want to get outside and spend a couple of hours looking at trees. Everybody and their mother was down at the Tidal Basin today, holding hands and enjoying a stroll in the sun that has been a long time coming. We’re done hibernating - until Tuesday, at least, when the temperature drops back down into the thirties (but let’s not talk about that).
